"I'm currently working with Art Gene to help market the three outdoor collaborative events 'It's not as rough as it used to be' as well as the 'Welcome to Paradise' exhibition and symposium. This will entail me helping to write press releases and icontact information, contact local radio stations and newspapers. I will also be looking at contacting certain local 'celebrities' to attend the final outdoor event and perhaps open the exhibition as an aim to attract more people. During each event I will interview the local people as well as the artists involved to find out their views and experiences. This feedback will hopefully help Art Gene to prepare for events to come as well as investigate an audience to target. As an MA Contemporary Arts student, I am interested in looking at how an arts organisation is run. I was particularly interested in Art Gene because of their combination of both art and architecture through it's regeneration programme. From doing my placement with Art Gene I hope to gain knowledge of how they organise events, commission artist projects, and involve the local people of Barrow-in-Furness. I know that Barrow has a rich industrial history and I would like to learn how Art Gene uses contemporary art practises and creative ideas to raise an awareness of its historical landmarks, buildings and surroundings. I am looking forward to seeing the outcome of 'It's not as rough as it used to be' and 'Welcome to Paradise', because both events are very interesting concepts, and it will be exciting to see whether Art Gene succeeds in engaging the local people with both art, architecture and events to come."
